A Komodo tour from Bali is really two parts: a 1-hour flight from Denpasar (DPS) to Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, then a boat trip into Komodo National Park from the harbour there. Our tours start in Labuan Bajo, not Bali. You fly over, sleep one night in Labuan Bajo, and your boat leaves the next morning.

We run the boat part from Labuan Bajo. Below is how to put the whole trip together from Bali: the flight, which tour fits how many days you have, and sample plans for three and four days.

Step 1: fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo

There are multiple flights a day from Denpasar to Komodo Airport, on 4 airlines, and the flight takes about 1 hour. Expect USD 50 to 100 one way. Komodo Airport is close to Labuan Bajo town and the harbour.

Fly in the day before your boat. Day trips pick up at your hotel at 06:30, so you need to already be in town the night before. Our Bali to Labuan Bajo guide compares the airlines and covers the ferry route too, which takes 2 to 3 days via Lombok and Sumbawa if you would rather go overland.

When you land, the airport to harbour guide explains the short transfer into town.

Step 2: pick the tour that fits your days

All three options leave from Labuan Bajo harbour. If you want them side by side first, our Komodo island tour from Labuan Bajo page compares routes and prices.

Short on time: the day trip

The Komodo day trip covers six stops in one day by speedboat: Padar, Pink Beach, the Komodo dragons, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Turtle Bay. Hotel pickup at 06:30, back in town between 16:15 and 17:00. From IDR 1,450,000 per person, with lunch, snorkel gear and a guide included.

This is the right pick if you have three days away from Bali.

The full experience: the liveaboard

On a Komodo tour 3 days 2 nights you sleep on a Phinisi inside the park. You wake up at Padar for sunrise, reach Pink Beach before the day boats arrive, and see the flying foxes at Kalong at sunset. From IDR 6.5M per person, with all meals and 9 cabins on board.

The boat is back in Labuan Bajo between 11:00 and 12:00 on the last day, and most guests catch an afternoon flight, so this fits in four days from Bali.

For a newer boat on the same route, the Ballona Phinisi has eight private ensuite cabins and a balcony jacuzzi in the Grand Suite.

Travelling as a group: the private charter

A private trip from Labuan Bajo gives your group the whole Phinisi and your own itinerary. From IDR 120M for the boat, under IDR 14M per person for 10.

What a Komodo tour from Bali costs

Add up three things: the return flight (USD 50 to 100 each way), one or more nights in Labuan Bajo, and the tour itself. Park entry fees are paid separately from any tour; the Komodo National Park guide has the current amounts. For a full budget with real numbers, see Labuan Bajo trip cost.
